PREFACE—1976

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I write this new preface for the Homer Family History Book. There have been many hours spent to republish this book, all of which have been donated with grateful hearts and a desire to serve. Several of us have been working on it for a couple of years during our spare time, and joy has been our reward. Acknowledgement of those who have made this reprinting possible and who worked so hard to see this task through, is without question important here.

First, Lorraine Homer (my wife) and Susan Roylance originally discussed the idea, and out of that conversation a decision was made to copy the book for the benefit of all Russell King Homer’s descendants. Next, appreciation goes to Judge Crockett, who gave us permission to copy the book. (His mother was the original author.) The use of a book for copying was donated by Russell Kent Homer Sr. (my father). I want to thank Locust Grove Press of Richland, Washington, for the actual printing. They have been excellent to work with.

Credit goes to many people who have contributed to the actual preparation of the book. Lorraine Homer worked many hours on indexing the book, which was suggested by the printer to make the book more usable. Those who worked on research and research verification have contributed a great deal of time and effort unselfishly. Susan Roy lance and Russell Anderson were largely in charge of research verification and organization. Past research was contributed by Eliza H. Longhurst, Lillie Mae Pardee, Larry Jardine and Leland Gentry. Much of the research done in recent years by researchers outside the Homer family organization was verified by the Institute of Family Research, Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah. Many new pedigree names will be listed follow this preface. Because of the many fascinating histories which were gathered in this research and verification effort, we have already begun a compilation for Volume II of Russell King Homer’s Ancestral History. We felt that there was so much new information that we needed to print a second book rather than add to the present book. By keeping this present book small, it will be easier for our children to pick it up and read it. Many thanks go to Newell Anderson, who generously helped finance the printing and paid for much of the original research and verification.

It has really been a joy to see this book reprinted and made available to all who desire a copy. I have always felt that in reading this book we and our children can enjoy the testimony of our forebears concerning the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the sacrifices they made for us and the gospel. May all who read this book enjoy and cherish it.
